Has your Bible reading become more of a chore than joy? Have you found yourself bored or confused because there is so much that is hard to understand? This workshop is designed to recharge and/or excite our interest in daily Bible reading and study. Let this be a stepping stone to the source in finding greater joy and blessing in Christ.

What is the purpose of daily Bible reading?

  • 1 Pet 2:2 (growth)

  • 2 Tim 3:15-17; Acts 20: 32 (able to make wise for salvationdoctrine, reproof, correction, instruction; thoroughly equipped for every good work)

  • Psa 119: 9; Eph 5:26 (washing and cleansing….sanctification)

  • John 17:17 (sanctification by..)

  • Rom 10:17 (Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God)

  • Psa 119: 105 Light unto our path

  • Jer 15: 16 “Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart

  • Eph 6: 17 Part of the armor of God “Sword of the Spirit”

  • Ultimately to get to know Him and His will

What are principles to consider when deciding on a daily reading plan?

  • Acts 20: 27; Matt 28: 20; The complete word of God (often sacrificed for other books, or reading only portions of the Bible)

  • Discipline will come as we obey (draw near to Him and He will draw near to you)

  • Develop a trust in God’s ability to teach us by His Spirit….this is diminished or lost if we immediately seek help from a commentary. (1 John 2:27)

  • Intend to do what it says (Jam 1:22) (not our own understanding or others)

  • Ask, seek, knock….He will answer and help every step of the way

  • Remember God’s purpose for your life….We are given the biggest opportunity in the history of the world!

In what way does the heart play a role in reading the Bible?

  • Why do you call Me Lord, Lord and not do the things which I say?” (Luke 6:46)

  • If you love me you will keep my commandments” (John 14: 15, 21)

  • Obedience is a testimony of love

  • If anyone wills to do His will, he shall know concerning the doctrine, whether it is from God or whether I speak of My own authority” (John 7:17)

What are the obstacles that get in the way of our daily Bible reading?

  • Satan wants our time (Heb 5: 11-14 “…Ought to be teachers by now…”)

  • Loving our lives rather than dying to self

  • Decisions for Goodliness versus Godliness

  • Man worship or making a God of our own thoughts

  • Leaning on tradition versus what is written in God’s word.

  • The example from days up to King Josiah….when Israel had totally abandoned the Law before Josiah. Could this be a comparison of present day?

Eph 1:15-19 20-23

Vs 15: Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints,

Vs 16: Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers:

Vs 17: That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him:

Vs 18: The eyes of you understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what is the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,

Vs 19: And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us who believe, according to the working of his mighty power

Col 1: 9-12 (…after hearing from Epaphras of their love in the spirit)

Vs 9: For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that you might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;

Vs 10: That you might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God;

Vs 11: Strengthened with all might, according to his glorious power, unto all patience and long-suffering with joyfulness;

Vs 12: Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light (NIV …has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light.
